Speciality and Extreme Adventure

Altitude Diver

The Purpose of the Altitude of the PADI Altitude Diver speciality course is to familiarise divers with the enjoyment of diving at altitudes between 300 and 3000 metres. The goals are (a) To develop the divers theoretical knowledge of altitude diving (b) to enable the diver to safely plan, organise and execute no-decompression dives at altitudes (c) To improve the divers diving ability and skill while supervised. Minimum age 12 years old.#

Boat Diver

The PADI Boat Diver speciality course familiarises the diver on the planning, skills, hazards and enjoyment of diving from boats. The goals are: (a) To develop the divers knowledge of dive boats--proper boat diving etiquette, personal conduct, basic dive boat terminology, local boat diving laws and/or ordinances (b) To develop the divers ability to perform important boat skills--boat diving entries/exits, of emergency/safety equipment (c) to enable the diver to plan, organise and conduct safe dives from a boat. Minimum age 12 years old

Research Diver

The PADI Research Diver familiarises you with: (a) the planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of research diving (b) an overview of general aquatic-life identification (c) research-diving techniques (use of grids, transects, photography,) such as those used for aquatic-life population counting (d) overview of physical aspects of aquatic environment (water movement--tides, currents, waves, bottom composition and temperature (e) history of oceanography (people and equipment under water)  Minimum 12 years old.

Drift Dives

The PADI Drift Diver speciality course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to the skills, knowledge, hazards and enjoyment of Drift Diving. The goals are: (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of drift diving (b) To enable the diver to plan, organise and make dives using safe drift diving techniques. Minimum 12 years old

Underwater Naturalist

The purpose of the PADI Underwater Naturalist course has four main purposes: (a) Create and awareness of the underwater environment (b) Evoke a sense of responsibility and the sense of respect for aquatic organisms (c) Expand the publics knowledge of the aquatic environment (d)  introduce your family to the world you dive in. Minimum 12 years old

Equipment Specialist

The purpose of the PADI Equipment Specialist course is to familiarise divers with the operation and maintenance of diving equipment. It is not an equipment-repair course. The goals of PADI Equipment Specialist training are to: (a) Develop the divers practical knowledge of the theory, principles and operation of diving equipment (b) Enable the diver to perform routine, recommended care and maintenance procedures (c) Enable the diver to store equipment properly (d)  Provide the diver with simple suggestions for comfortable equipment configurations (e) Introduce the diver to new equipment. Minimum age 12 years old.

Underwater Navigator

The PADI Underwater Navigator speciality course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to navigation techniques used in the underwater environment. The goal of PADI Underwater Navigation training are: (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of underwater navigation (b) to enable the diver to plan, organise and make dives using natural and compass navigation techniques. Minimum age 12 years old.

Dry Suit Diver

The PADI Dry Suit Diver speciality course is intended to serve as a safe, supervised introduction to the skills, hazards and enjoyment of diving in a dry suit. The goals are: (a) To develop the divers knowledge of dry suits--when to use dry suits, types of dry suits available, dry suits accessories, their maintenance, and how to make minor repairs (b) to develop the divers ability to perform important dry suit skills (c) To enable the diver to plan, organise and conduct safe using a dry suit. Minimum age 12 years old.

Multilevel Diver

The PADI Multilevel Diver speciality familiarise you with the skills, hazards and enjoyment of multilevel diving with The Wheel and/or dive computers. The goals are (a) To develop the divers knowledge of the theories behind dive tables, diver computers and multilevel diving (b)  To enable the student to plan, organise and make safe multilevel no-decompression dives (c) To ensure the diver knows the most state-of-art recommendations for flying after diving, omitted decompression and the S.A.F.E. Diver program. Minimum age 12 years old.

Underwater Photographer

The PADI Underwater Photographer speciality course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to underwater still photography techniques used in the underwater environment. Its goals are: (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of photographic principles, composition, film types, strobe and available light photography and camera-handling techniques (b) To develop the divers practical knowledge of the preparations, care and maintenance of photographic equipment (c) To enable the diver to take underwater photographs that are properly composed, focused and exposed. Minimum age 12 years old.

Night Diver

The purpose of the PADI Night Diver Speciality course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving at night. The goals of PADI Night Diver training are: (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of night diving (b) To enable the divers to organise and safely conduct night dives. Minimum age 12 years old.

Underwater Videographer

The PADI Underwater Videographer speciality course consists of: (a) the selection, maintenance, care and handling of underwater video equipment (b) safe diving practices while using underwater video equipment (c) exposure, focus, and maintaining colour with video equipment (d) shot types, lengths and camera moves (e) developing a story line and shot sequencing (f) the planning, organisation, procedures, techniques and problems of underwater Videography. Minimum age 12 years old.

Peak Performance Buoyancy

The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course is a great speciality to gain. It consists of: (a) buoyancy check (b) fine-tuning buoyancy underwater (c) weight positioning and distribution (d) streamlining (e) visualisation (f) PADI's "Basic Weighting Guidelines. Minimum age 12.

Cavern Diver*

The PADI Cavern Diver course is intended to provide a safe, supervised introduction to diving in natural overhead environments. However, although the course introduces divers to the myriad skills, procedures and techniques that cavern diving has in common with cave diving, the Cavern Diver course is not intended to provide an introduction nor enticement for cave diving. Minimum age 18 years old.

Ice Diver*

The PADI Ice Diver speciality course enable you to: (a) explain the planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of diving under ice (b)  familiarise the diver with the use of special equipment, safety lines, signals, communications, line tending/securing and procedures (c)  the diver to explore ice environment. Minimum age 18.

Search & Recovery Diver*

The PADI Search and Recovery Diver speciality course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to search and recovery diving. The goals are: (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of search and recovery diving (b) To enable the student to plan, organise and make search and recovery dives. Minimum age 15 years old.

Wreck Diver*

The purpose of the PADI Wreck Speciality course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and excitement of diving on wrecks. The goals are (a) To develop the divers practical knowledge of the underwater wreck environment (b) to raise the divers awareness of the historical value of wrecks, and of social and legal issues surrounding that value (c) To enable the diver to plan and organise dives to safely explore wrecks found within depths and conditions as good as or better than those the diver is trained in. Minimum age 15 years old.

Enriched Air Diver*

The PADI Enriched Air Diver is designed to qualify recreational divers to use Nitrox for non stop recreational diving. The program addresses the use of enriched air with 22 to 40 percent oxygen, with emphasis on enriched are with 32 and 36 percent oxygen. Minimum age 15.

Deep Diver*

The purpose of the PADI Night Diver Speciality course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving between the depths of 18 to 39.5 metres. The Deep Diver speciality course is intended to serve as a safe, supervised introduction to deeper diving within the limits of recreational scuba diving. The goals of PADI Deep Diver training are: (a) To develop the divers theoretical knowledge of deep diving (b) to enable the diver to plan, organise and make no-decompression dives between the depths of 18 to 39.5 metres. Minimum age 15 years old.


*For Adventure Diver (Advanced Open Water)
 Geographical and topographical considerations may limit this as a speciality in the UK.

Extreme Adventure

The Extreme Adventures program recognises divers who have been to the edge of the sphere and experienced a dive within the distinctive guidelines. The program is designed to allow divers the opportunity to participate in a dive usually considered to be outside the realm of every day diving. Our Ocean Dreams PADI Instructors, using their experience and qualifications, will lead the diver on a journey of discovery that few will have experienced. Extreme Adventures participants who complete any 5 of the 8 Extreme Adventures identified in the program, and have them verified by a PADI Instructor, will be listed on the PADI Extreme Adventures web site Roll of Honour and receive the coveted Extreme Adventures certificate. Extreme experiences offered through the program include Whale, Deep, Wreck, Ice, Drift, Altitude, Shark and Re-breather.
